The Planning Department, which is actually headed by the Head Land Use Planning Department, is responsible for the planning functions in the District and for exercising the development control aspect with regard to land development. It has the overall responsibility to ensure that the issue of permits is done effectively and efficiently.
Section 117(7) of the Local Government Act 2011 has imposed a legal obligation on the Council to issue a permit within 14 days.
The services offered by the Planning Department are :
- planning functions in the District and for exercising the development control aspect with regard to land development;
- processing and issue of Building and Land Use Permits (Residential, Commercial, Morcellement), for extension to existing buildings;
- change of use of a building from one cluster to another cluster; and
- land development for division in kind among heirs and excision of land.
